Ducks down Sharks, 4-3

In Anaheim,Rickard Rakell hit for a pair of goals for the Ducks in a 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

Anthony Stolarz made 40 saves in the win.

“That last game of the road trip [a 7-4 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday], we wanted to build off that,” Stolarz said. “I thought we came out and had a good start.”

The game went to the skills competition, where Trevor Zegras was credited with the game-winner. He was the only scorer in the skills.

The Ducks moved to 25-19-9.

“After he got that first one, [Rakell] kept shooting the puck,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “He was really on his game, really engaged and very, very focused.”

Logan Couture struck twice for the Sharks, and Brent Burns added a single marker in the loss.

“It’s natural when you get to this point, if you’re on the outside looking in, you start to think about the [NHL Trade] Deadline (on March 21),” Couture said. “[Sharks coach Bob] Boughner told us to let it go and just play.”

San Jose have lost seven straight and have dropped to 22-22-6.

“You’ve got to finish,” Boughner said. “We had plenty of chances to finish and we didn’t, whether it’s a breakaway, whether it’s a 2 on 1, whether it’s a back door, 3 on 1. You’ve got to finish on some of those.”

Derek Grant also scored for the Ducks in regulation, his goal gave then a 1-0 lead in the first period.

James Reimer made 26 saves in the Sharks loss.
