Ducks down Columbus, 6-4

In one of the most trying back ends of a season, John Gibson has had struggles and his Ducks have been bruised and battered. On Sunday, he made 31 saves and finally got a win, his first since March 1, 6-4, over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

“We haven’t played a lot of (high-scoring) games like that,” Anaheim’s Troy Terry said. “A lot of scoring chances both ways, but I thought we did a good job capitalizing on ours and limiting theirs.”

The Ducks moved to 30-33-14.

Terry hit for a double in the win.

Jake Bean struck twice for the Blue Jackets.

With the score tied, 3-3, in the third period, Trevor Zegras snapped the tie for the Ducks for the 4-3 lead, and Cam Fowler hit for the eventual game-winner, 5-3.

Columbus dropped to 35-35-6.

“We found our legs pretty good on a back-to-back, really,” Larsen said. “Just big mistakes tonight. That was the thing that really hurt us.”

Sean Kuraly also scored for Columbus.

“Another tough start for us,” Columbus’ Justin Danforth said. “Couldn’t pull off the win, but there was the battle back, for sure.”

Cole Sillinger pulled the Blue Jackets within one at 5-4, but Derek Grant hit an empty-netter with less than a minute to go for the 6-4 final.

Gerry Mayhew also scored for the Ducks, his goal came in the first period when the Ducks took a 3-1 lead.

“It was definitely a good period for us,” Mayhew said. “We came out strong and we controlled most of the play.”

J-F Berube made 26 saves in the Blue Jackets loss.
