The Anaheim Ducks need wins to keep pace in the Western Conference wild card race.
Friday night had the Ducks facing an equally desperate Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Ducks got their win, 4-2, on a night when John Gibson made his return to the lineup; Gibson made 34 saves for the win.
Rickard Rakell and Cam Fowler had goal a-pice and each added an assist to the scoresheet.
Andrew Cogliano and Josh Manson added single markers in the win.
“We’ve had a good rhythm lately,” Cogliano said. “That’s been a big part of our game.”
Sonny Milano and Zach Werenski scored for the Jackets.
“It’s that time of the year where every team is going 100 percent, playing physical,” Milano said. “We’ve just got to expect it at this point.”
Columbus dropped to 32-28-5 and are fighting for the second wild card spot with the Carolina Hurricanes.
“We wanted to make sure we held ourselves accountable when we have two days off. We wanted to make sure we worked hard with two days of practice and followed up with a good game,” Gibson said after the game.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves in the loss.
“I think we stood in there. I think we played physical. They are a good, hard team, so it’s tough to play against that. I think we did a good job of it,” Werenski said after the loss.
