In Anaheim Wednesday night, the Ducks and Calgary Flames were riding four-game streaks and it was the Ducks managed to stretch theirs to five games with a convincing 6-3 victory.
The Ducks got goals from six different skaters including Palmieri, Patrick, Ben Lovejoy, Tim Jackman, Ryan Getzlaf, and Ryan Kesler.
“We knew that they haven’t had a lot of wins here recently in this place, and they were going to give us our best game” Jackman said. “You never feel real confident against a team like that even with a four-goal lead, they just don’t quit, and they make plays and they go to the net.
“It’s always nice to get the win before you have a few days off and we don’t have to think about a loss so much. Guys showed up tonight and got the job done.”
The Flames have not win at the Honda Center for a decade. But their push after the Ducks had gained a 4-0 lead was a sign of life in the club, a push back.
“Sometimes it goes like this; that’s the beauty of this game,” Flames coach Bob Hartley said. “They’re a great team and they made it tough. In the second and third, I thought that we skated a little better. We were putting even more pucks, with traffic, at the net, and that’s where we got our goals. We got them on their heels a little bit, but that fifth goal really hurt us.”
Jackman skated on the Ducks’ fourth line and he and Nate Thompson and Rene Bourque played well the entire game. Jackman had two assists on the night and Bourque one.
“They’re awesome,” Lovejoy said. “I love playing with that line. Nate has been a huge pickup. Especially when I was hurt, I thought Tim Jackman was consistently one of our best forwards. He’s not fancy but he’s really hard to play against … I thought that whole line was clicking tonight. I think that was a big part of our victory.”
Mikael Backlund and Sean Monahan trimmed the Ducks lead to 4-2 and Joe Colborne’s goal in the third made it 5-3 but that was as close as the Flames would get.
Frederik Andersen made 30 saves for the win, Joni Ortio started for the Flames and gave up four goals on 11 shots before being replaced Jonas Hiller.
