In Denver Saturday, the Anaheim Ducks managed a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche to keep their aspirations alive for the top spot in the Pacific Division.
Jakob Silfverberg had two goals in the win and Corey Perry picked up three assists to drive the offense.
John Gibson made 29 saves for the win that gave the Ducks 101 points, same as the Los Angeles Kings.
The Kings hold a number of tie-breakers.
Ryan Getzlaf, Cam Fowler and Ryan Garbutt also scored for the Ducks.
Semyon Varlamov, made 26 saves in the loss.
The Avalanche closed out the campaign on a six-game losing streak and there will certainly be a number of questions asked including the future of Matt Duchene as a member of the Avalanche roster.
Duchene has been in and out of Avs coach Patrick Roy’s dog house almost a regular cycle this season including Roy’s displeasure with Duchene celebrating his 30th goal in a recent dismal loss.
Zach Redmond, Nick Holden and Jarome Iginla scored for the Avs.
For Iginla, it was his 611th goal in his career good for 16th in the NHL. He is 14 goals behind Joe Sakic for 15th on the list.
