Ducks cruise past Avs, 5-1

The All-Star break was a welcome one for Jakob Silfverberg  of the Anaheim Ducks.  He had missed three games due to injury.

Tuesday night he returned to the lineup and netted two goals in a 5-1 win for the Ducks over the Colorado Avalanche.

Silfverberg tipped his cap to his linemates, Andrew Cogliano, Ryan Kesler, for his successful return.

“We’ve been playing together for a while now and we’re all on the same page,” he said. “It’s getting pucks toward the net and having someone driving there. Both my goals tonight are just driving hard in the middle lane and getting the puck. It doesn’t have to be too fancy, just hard work.”

Avs, who have lost eight straight, got a goal from Mikko Rantanen .

Calvin Pickard made 26 saves in the loss.

Rickard Rakell, Korbinian Holzer  and Cam Fowler also scored for the Ducks.

“I liked our game in the second and third periods,” Fowler said. “We got the win, and that’s all that matters heading into a big road trip.”

John Gibson made 28 saves to get the win as the Ducks improved to 28-15-9.

“It’s of vast importance you win your home games. Your home record has to be strong. We want to make this a tough place to come into,” Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle said.
