Ducks clip Red Wings, 3-2, in OT

In Anaheim John Klingberg scored for the Ducks on Tuesday night with 47 seconds left in the third period, with the extra attacker on the ice.

The goal tied the Detroit Red Wings, 2-2, and forced extra time.

Ryan Strome scored his fifth of the season in the extra session to give the Ducks a 3-2 win to end their three-game skid.

“We worked hard all night and I think we were the better team,” Strome said. “Obviously it’s been tough for us lately, but this one feels good and hopefully we can get on a roll.”

John Gibson made 31 saves in the Anaheim win.

The Ducks improved to 5-10-1.

Jonatan Berggren and Michael Rasmussen were the Detroit strikers.

“We had a good flow to our game through two periods and, unfortunately, we didn’t manage our third very well,” Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said.

Detroit dropped to 7-5-4 and have lost four straight.

“We had a really good start to our season and we’ve been competitive in this league because we take risk out of our game but, unfortunately, a couple times in the third and especially in overtime we got away from that,” Lalonde said.

Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the first period off a goal from Berggren.

“He’s been a great addition since he’s come up,” Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin said.

Mason McTavish tied it for the Ducks, 1-1.

“[McTavish] gives us a real good option the way we’ve changed our power play around,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “He can one-time the puck very, very well.”

Detroit reclaimed the lead with under a minute left in the middle frame on Rasmussen goal.

“We’ve got to look to create more 5-on-5 and put the puck in the net more,” Larkin said. “Tonight, I think it was a tale of John Gibson. He was good. We had a lot of looks, but we’ve got to be able to bear down.”

Ville Husso made 27 saves in the Red Wings loss.
