Ducks clinch post season berth with 4-1 win over Canucks

The Anaheim Ducks clinched a playoff berth Tuesday night with a solid 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

The win was the fifth straight for the Ducks, their longest streak of the season.

Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves to get the win

“In the last little while we have been focusing on the process of our team, not what else is going on out there,” Bernier said. “And that’s where we’re having success.”

The Ducks came out loaded for the win with three goals in the third period to build a 3-0 lead and never look back.

Corey Perry, Patrick Eaves and Nick Ritchie scored in the barrage.

“We know what’s at stake. We’ve been building for this all season and that was the goal — to make the playoffs — and we did that tonight, and now it has to snowball from here,” Perry said. “It definitely helps when you are playing well and you do it. We want everything in our hands.”

Brandon Montour ramped up the lead to 4-0 with marker in the middle frame.

“We gave them three goals and then we started playing,” Vancouver’s Henrik Sedin said. “It’s too good of a league to do that against a great team.”

Brock Boeser scored for the Canucks early in the third period.

“We score early in the hockey game and get things going our way and then, all of a sudden, it’s 4-0. You expect a pushback from them and they did. We received the game a little too much for our liking but, hey, we won a 4-1 game,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said

Ryan Miller made 35 saves in taking the loss.

“Our intensity level wasn’t good enough. We didn’t win any 1-on-1s tonight,” Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins said after the loss.
