Ducks build lead in Pacific Division with win over Flames

In Anaheim Tuesday, the Ducks moved four points clear of second place with a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

John Gibson made 26 saves for the win.

Patrick Eaves, Kevin Bieksa and Chris Wagner had strikes for the Ducks.

“If we’re playing the way we can play, we’re a tough team to beat,” Bieksa said. “Going in the playoffs, we know if we find ourselves playing [the Flames], it’ll be a tough series.”

The Flames have lost 25 straight games in Anaheim (0-20-5).

“There are a lot of things we can build on if this if this is our opponent come playoff time,” Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan said.

Mikael Backlund scored the lone Calgary goal.

Cam Fowler left the game in the third after a hit. That injury led to 106 penalty minutes over the rest of the stanza.

“The most important thing, from my perspective as a coach, was to settle things down and focus on the hockey game,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said.

Chad Johnson started for the Flames but left early in the first after a save that ended with an apparent injury.

Brian Elliott replaced him and made 16 saves and yielded three goals in the loss.

“A weird situation,” Elliott said. “I hope Chad’s OK … it was a tough game.”
