Ducks breeze by Seattle, 7-4

In Seattle, the Kraken fell behind by two goals, early to the Anaheim Ducks and then had to play catch-up hockey all night before losing, 7-4, on Thursday night.

Troy Terry scored twice for the Ducks in the win.

“[Terry] is playing the right way,” Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf said. “It’s ultimately what we’ve been working on for the last year and a half. Basically, it’s his understanding situations in the game … as you get better, as you get more confident with the puck, you’re able to make more plays, but ultimately, he’s making those little plays that change the game, changing momentum and allow him space. And obviously, he’s got the confidence right now in finishing.”

Mason McTavish and Terry gave the Ducks that 2-0 lead.

“The first 25 to 30 minutes of the hockey game we didn’t win very many of the races or many of the puck battles,” Seattle head coach Dave Hakstol said. “When you get behind like that it’s hard to dig out … We expect ourselves to be better than that and to start better here at home and ultimately, we didn’t do that. We really weren’t able to push back that’s probably one of the biggest things.”

Seattle dropped to 4-9-1.

Jared McCann hit for two for Seattle.

Josh Mahura and Hampus Lindholm scored for Anaheim.

“I think we’re learning good lessons,” Anaheim head coach Dallas Eakins said. “But the difference is now that if we do have to get into a game like that, we find a way to win it. It’s like we’re winning many different ways right now. And that’s really important. We always have to remember we are a team in a rebuild. We’re not even sure if we’re halfway through it. But a man, these guys are coming in with a very singular mindset.”

The Ducks improved to 8-4-3.

Jaden Schwartz and Jordan Eberle also scored for the Kraken.

Sam Carrick and Terry added empty-net goals for the 7-4 final.

Philipp Grubauer made 27 saves in the Kraken loss.

“This group is going to continue to push back but it’s not about that,” Hakstol said. “It’s about the complete 60-minute performance, which we did not have tonight.”
