Duchene leads Predators past Detroit

In Nashville, Matt Duchene hit for a double and three points in a 4-1 Predators win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

“I think this was our seventh game in 12 nights, so I’m really proud of how the guys came out strong and were able to grind this one out,” Predators head coach John Hynes said. “It always helps when you have a big crowd on a Saturday night to give you some energy.”

Juuse Saros made 28 saves in the Preds win.

“We did a good job of staying patient and we were able to power through to get the win,” Duchene said.

Adam Erne was Detroit’s lone striker.

Nashville improved to 26-14-3.

“When you are playing on the road and on the back half of a back-to-back, you’d really love to win the specialty teams battle,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said. “At the end of the night, they got one (power-play goal) and we got none. That was the difference in the game.”

Nick Cousins  (power play) and Filip Forsberg added a single markers for Nashville.

“I feel like we’re getting things going,” Cousins said. “Our first unit is tough to match, especially this year, but we’ve been clicking lately.”

Detroit fell to 18-18-6.

“I thought we matched their intensity and their physicality, but they made some plays, and we had some breakdowns,” the Red Wings’ Marc Staal said. “That’s a very good hockey team over there, and they weren’t going to make it easy for us.”

Alex Nedeljkovic made 21 saves in the Red Wings loss.
