Dubnyk notches third straight shutout, 3-0, over Flyers

As Devan Dubnyk goes, so go the Minnesota Wild.  In St Paul Tuesday, Dubnyk made 30 saves to post his third straight shutout, this time a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

“I feel confident in there,” Dubnyk said. “The biggest key for me is just finding pucks and making sure my feet are set. That kind of trickles down into everything else as far as moving around and rebound control and all that stuff….And the guys were doing a good job of letting me see it and that certainly helps as well.”

Dubnyk’s shutout streak is at 195:05, career mark and a franchise record.

Nino Niederreiter struck for a goal in the first period for the 1-0 lead and Dubnyk did the rest.

Eric Staal and Jason Zucker added empty-net goals to seal the win late.

Zucker’s goal came after two Wild players had scored, something that had not happened in too many games for the Wild.

“I’m glad somebody else scored,” Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau said. “All year, we talk about we’re not a one-man team, we don’t have Wayne Gretzky out there so we have to do everything by committee. The previous couple games, yeah, Zuck had great games, but we need contributions from everybody to succeed.

The Flyers have been shutout five times this season, a league high.

“I liked our game, I liked our line combinations. … I think they got a jump early, but individually as a line we got some good looks and dominated play offensively. We had some Grade A chances, I had some Grade A chances myself, but we keep getting places, slots jammed, good things are going to happen,” the Flyers’ Dale Weise said after the loss. “Give some credit to [Wild goalie Devan] Dubnyk, he’s a good goaltender. They defend real well, but it’s more about us. Good things are going to come if we keep playing that way.” –

Brian Elliott took the loss on 17 saves.

“I thought we pressed hard, we defended well, and it’s tough,” Elliott said. “Sometimes when it rains, it pours when you can’t score, and it’s pouring on us a little bit right now.”
