Dubinsky sends Jackets past Pens in OT

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a thrilling regulation match, Brandon Dubinsky scored with just over one minute gone in extra time to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night.

“It feels really good, especially against those guys in a packed building,” Dubinsky said. “The fans were awesome tonight.”

For Dubinsky, it was his first career overtime marker.

“I’m happy for [Dubinsky]. He works so hard. He makes some mistakes. He makes some doozies, but he finds a way to will his way into big things,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said.

Ian Cole scored the lone Pens goal.

“It seemed like a bit of a playoff-style hockey game. They’re really trying to establish the forecheck. We’re obviously trying to work them down low as well. There wasn’t a lot of space out there. They were in our face all night and we tried to play in their face all night,” Cole said after the game.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 38 saves (a season-high) for the win.

“It’s a tight hockey game. There’s a few chances we feel like we could have got,” Sidney Crosby said. “They had some good ones. [Murray] made some saves. It’s going to happen sometimes. but for the most part we did a lot of good things.”

Matt Murray made 37 saves in the loss.
