QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Playing their second of three games in three nights Quebec came in Drummondville hoping they could stop their losing streak. After seeing Drummondville take the lead twice in regulation and Quebec rally each time, the Voltigeurs got the last word needing overtime before signing a 3-2 win. Michael Carcone scored his 35th goal of the season getting the goal that made the difference in Drummondville favor 3:17 into overtime period.
Dominating 15-9 in shots on goal, Drummondville opened the scoring on their first shot on net 1:12 into the first period. After seeing shot from blue line by Voltigeurs defenseman Justin Guenette hit Quebec defenseman Christian Huntley home team center William Leblanc hit the puck in the air beating Quebec goaltender Callum Booth.
While Booth was beaten on first shot he faced, his teammates could thank him if the visitor did not trail by more than one goal.
Going on breakaway Voltigeurs defenseman Sergei Boikov saw Quebec netminder make glove save against the Colorado Avalanche sixth-round selection (161st) overall in 2015. In another occasion, Quebec defenseman Ross McDougall lost the puck to center Gabriel Slight. The former Shawinigan forward hit the post with a backhand shot also on breakaway.
While Drummondville dominated the opening period Quebec played much better in middle frame taking advantage of their first power play opportunity to get on the board tying the score 1-1. With Voltigeurs left winger Philippe Pelletier in the box, Bronson Beaton scored his 22nd of the year and his ninth power play goal of the year as he only had to shoot in an empty net after great pass from teammate Ross McDougall at 2:47.
Drummondville regained the lead on a power play with Quebec defenseman Dakotah Woods in the penalty box. Justin Guenette’s one-timer from blue line left no chance to Quebec netminder with 15:46 remaining in middle frame.
Quebec replied coming from behind for the second time. Already taking advantage of their first power play opportunity to tie the game in the beginning of second period, Quebec pulled the trigger on their second opportunities with man up.
Trying to ice the puck Drummondville netminder gave the puck right on Quebec defenseman Ross McDougall stick shooting the puck in an empty net with 1:23 left to play in second period.
Quebec dominated 15-4 in shots on goal in second period.
After neither teams was able to get on board in third period both teams went in overtime trying to get the additional point.
After Drummondville saw Quebec goaltender frustrate their forwards in overtime, Voltigeurs left winger and scoring leader Michael Carcone beat Quebec netminder on his right side with a wrist shot at 3:17 of overtime giving the Voltigeurs 3-2 overtime wins.
Quebec will end his three games in three nights visiting Gaitneau facing the Olympiques on Saturday afternoon.
