Drummondville rout Quebec in Videotron Center

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Five goals scored in the first period and four in the second led Drummondville Voltigeurs in a 10-2 win over Quebec. Former Rempart platers Charley Graaskamp, Joey Ratelle and Anthony Boucher were the offensive leaders with two goal each.

“Completely unacceptable, I want to hide myself under the building, I feel really bad,” answered Remparts assistant Captain Yanick Turcotte after the game.

“I feel really bad for our fans in the building tonight (7625) who came to see us play. I feel bad for the organization, last time I have had that feeling was when we lose against Val-d’Or (11-2) three years ago. I don’t have any other words to say.” Said the author of Quebec first goal the one that tied the game in first period.

On the victorious side, Voltigeurs head coach has been modest in his team victory. “I think it was a combination of opportunities, scoring get us into the game. For sure when it went not good on the other side like that, it was tough. We continued and gained confidence we just control even more the puck.” Drummondville head coach Domonique Ducharme said.

Killing a five-on-three power play with less than three minutes into the first period, Drummondville was the first to break the ice on Sunday afternoon in Quebec. Posted to Quebec goaltender right side Joey Ratelle only had to slide the puck between Evgeny Kiselev right pad and the post at 7:03 of the opening period. Frederic Aube and Nicolas Beaudin got the assists.

A great individual effort led to Quebec tying goal with 8:06 to play in first period. Unable to control the rebound on the first backhand shot by Turcotte, the left winger came back from behind the net to surprised Drummondville netminder Frederic Foulem at 11:54.

Drummondville regained their lead 13 seconds later following a great exchange between Alexandre Barre-Boulet, Joey Ratelle and Charley Graaskamp. The former Quebec Remparts winger Graaskamp beat Quebec goaltender Kiselev on his right side.

Anthony Boucher gave the visitors a two-goal lead with his first of two goals in the opening period. Boucher wrist shot beat Quebec goalie over his right shoulder at 17:10.

Mathieu Sevigny made it 4-1 with his first of the season as his wrist shot got the best of Quebec goalie beating Kiselev on his right side at 18:06.

Mathieu Boucher ended first period scoring for Drummondville scoring his second of the game visitor fifth goals in the game with only 36.3 seconds remaining in first period.

Quebec head coach Boucher gave the net to youngster netminder Samuel Cardinal. Kiselev left the game allowing five goals on 11 shots on goal.

Quebec scored their second goal as left winger Olivier Garneau long wrist shot beat Voltigeurs netminder on glove side at 9:06 of middle frame.

A penalty to Quebec center Sean O’Brien proved to be costly to Philippe Boucher’s team as Voltigeurs right winger Kristian Afanasyev beat Quebec goalie Cardinal over his left shoulder at 11:08.

Visiting team came back forty seconds later with their seventh goal in the game. Already get one in the game the former Remparts winger Charley Graaskamp backhanded shot beat Quebec netminder on his right side.

Drummondville left winger Joey Ratelle scored the eighth goal his second in the game his fourth in two games with a wrist shot at 1244.

Victim of three goals on 11 shots Cardinal left the game as Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher sent back his veteran in net to complete the game.

Unable to leave his zone Philipp Kurashev saw Drummondville adding a ninth goals with 32.6 seconds remaining as Jean-Simon Dionne took advantage of turnover in Quebec zone to scores his first of the year.

Only one goal was scored in the third period. Already going one for three with a man advantage the visitor completed the scoring as Quebec defenseman David McDougall was in penalty box for Quebec. Nathan Hudgin scored his first of the year with 43 seconds left to Quebec defenseman penalty. Last Drummondville goal came at 11:13 of the third period.

“We said since last year that we will have ups and down, we know it will that this year, we lived it in our first weekend, it was good for us to win our first game on Friday night to live the high of the first game of the regular season with everyone in the building to have the former players who talked to the players before the game.” Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher said after the game.

“We didn’t have any explanation everything went well in first game we look the lineup and you can’t make any change, after this afternoon game it has been very hard for everyone so you want to change everyone for the next game. So I can’t explained it, we are young we will repeated it, we know it and we will live with it. It is the effort that bug me a bit tonight.” Ended Remparts head coach Boucher.

Quebec next game will be on the road in Victoriaville facing the Voltigeurs next Friday September 30.
