The Columbus River Dragons went into tonight’s game to seek a win for last night’s loss. The game was a special occasion as it was Military Appreciation night in the dragon’s lair. The local area didn’t disappoint as the attendance was officially sold out. The dragons would want to perform better tonight in front of a crowd of 7,364 people, Soldiers, veterans, and families.
The first period started off physical with a fight within the first thirty seconds. There was also a hit on a player into the glass which fell into the crowd. The first strike came from the dragons with Underwood scoring at the 6:51 minute mark in the period. The left the dragons in the lead after the first period.
The second period would start off a little calmer. The dragons would manage to find the back of the net again with Croop scoring at the 6:06 mark in the period. Underwood would score a second goal at the 14:55 minute mark in the second period. That goal put him on hat-trick alert with plenty of game left to play. Aldworth would help increase the dragon’s lead with a goal at the 18:25 minute mark. This would leave the dragons with a four to zero lead going into intermission.
The dragons wouldn’t let off the throttle but would rather increase the pressure. Daae would knock one in at the 1:34 mark into the period. Aldworth would score a second goal at the 2:11 mark to increase the lead to six. That goal now put two dragons on hat-trick alert for the night. Aldworth would move forward and get his hat-trick at the 9:26 minute mark. Croop would tap one in at the 10:49 mark to also put him on hat-trick alert as well. Aldworth would knock in a fourth goal on the night at the 19:02 mark making it a nine-to-zero game.
This game being a shutout in front of a sold-out crowd on military appreciation night is truly remarkable. The three stars of the night go to Croop as the third star, Pavlas as the second star, and Aldworth with the one star.
