Dragons Defeat Midshipmen 7-4

ANNAPOLIS, MD:  In a matchup to determine first place in the ECHA, it was the Drexel Dragons defeating the home team United States Naval Academy Midshipmen by a score of 7-4.

The first period was a fast paced back and forth affair until late in the frame, when Navy scored two goals while Drexel was short handed. Drexel was two men down at 15:30 when Andrew Douglas scored the first goal of the night with assists from Joseph Kelly and John Scaccia. Less than a minute later, at 16:21, it was Derek Golembrosky scoring with helpers from Kelly and Douglas. The Dragons fired 14 shots on goal, while Navy had 13 shots.

With just thirty seconds gone in the second, Drexel’s Dylan Hart fed Eugene Lim for the Dragons first goal. At 5:57 it was Hart feeding Nicholas Urbani to tie the game. Derek Golembrosky got his second goal of the game with assists from Kelly and Scaccia to regain the lead. It was Hart setting up Mike Churchvara at 11:42 to even it up again for Drexel. At 12:49 Drexel took their first lead of the game, when Kyle Weller scored with assists coming from James Schickling and Jamie Crane. Navy’s team captain Alexander Vandenberg drew the Midshipmen even at 16:15 on an assist from defenseman Brendan Reynolds. Dylan Hart got his fourth point of the game when he gave Drexel the lead at 17:51 with helpers from Lim and Christopher Hagen.

The third period saw Drexel cement the win with two more goals. Wyeth Kuhl scored at 4:59 with an assist from Schickling, while Kyle Fiore got a goal at 9:30 with the assist going to Jim Mikalic.

Navy had Luke Markus in goal. He made 42 goals on 49 shots. Drexel had Jeremy Wik between the pipes, making 36 saves on 40 shots. Joseph Kelly led the Midshipmen with three points, while Dylan Hart had four points for the Dragons. Navy continued at home on Saturday night with a divisional game against Temple University, while Drexel traveled to West Chester University for a Saturday night divisional matchup.
