Thirty National Hockey League teams are now devising pathways and methods for unseating two-time Stanley Cup Champions, Pittsburgh Penguins.
Three immediate methods will take place in due course of the next few weeks.
The Chicago Blackhawks will host the NHL Entry Draft June 23-24 and that’s the first opportunity for 29 teams who did not win the Cup this season and the expansion Las Vegas Golden Knights to begin building the next challenger to the Penguins.
Pro Hockey News has been conducting a mock entry draft for seven years and we have competed well when compared to other services and media outlets.
Our mock draft is now sitting at selection 21 with the New York Rangers and prognosticators have been looking at needs, assets and potential decisions away from the draft before they make their final pick.
Brian Jennings, PHN’s Mock NHL Entry Draft editor, has been pleased with the picks thus far.
“The one through three selections are always a bit of a toss up in the order, but we think we have those three nailed down well,” Jennings said recently, “Where everyone has really settled into the rhythm is the process after the top ten is done.
“We’ve got some good selections in the draft and we are comfortable with how we will turn out.”
After the draft, July 1st will begin the Free Agency season and trade season and the potential for major moves is overwhelming this season.
The Ottawa Senators have already announced that they will not bring Chris Neil back and the New York Rangers bought out Dan Girardi’s contract.
“Now that the NHL season is officially over, the NHL Draft will be a bit different this year, with the addition of the Vegas Golden Knights as the new team on the block. The New Jersey Devils are the first team to make the first draft pick, followed by the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars, all which had a rough season. But even though they have top spots to choose a great player, their sportsbook odds to win next year’s Stanley Cup aren’t looking that great. It will all depend on what they need to reinforce on their teams. Plus, we don’t know how the new team will end up as well. It will be an very interesting draft to watch.” says line manager at MyBookie Online Sportsbook, David Strauss.
Other decisions will be made soon that will affect rosters for the coming season.
