Donato signs one-year, $1.2 million contract with Kraken

Ryan Donato signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract to stay with the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old forward did not receive a qualifying offer and became an unrestricted free agent July 13. He had NHL career highs with 31 points and 16 goals in 74 regular-season games last season and scored the first goal in Kraken history on Oct. 12 in a 4-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

“Ryan elevated his game last season and we’re happy to have him return to the Kraken,” said Seattle general manager Ron Francis. “He completed a career year and will hopefully eclipse that in 2022-23.”

Selected by the Boston Bruins in the second round (No. 56) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Donato has 108 points (51 goals, 57 assists) in 254 regular-season games with the Kraken, San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild and Boston Bruins. He does not have a point in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.
