Max Domi was traded to the Dallas Stars by the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
Chicago received goalie Anton Khudobin and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft for the forward and goalie prospect Dylan Wells.
Domi, who turned 28 on Thursday, signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks on July 13, 2022, and can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. He had 49 points (18 goals, 31 assists) in 60 games this season before being held out of a 5-2 loss to the Stars earlier Thursday for roster management.
Selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round (No. 12) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Domi has 363 points (119 goals, 244 assists) in 561 regular-season games for the Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes, Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets and Coyotes, and nine points (three goals, six assists) in 24 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Stars (33-16-13) are first in the Central Division, five points ahead of the Minnesota Wild. They acquired forward Evgenii Dadonov in a trade with the Canadiens for forward Denis Gurianov on Feb. 26.
Khudobin is 13-4-4 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 24 games with Texas of the American Hockey League this season. He has not played in the NHL since 2021-22. Chicago assigned him to the AHL.
The 36-year-old is 114-91-33 with a 2.50 GAA, .916 save percentage and 11 shutouts in 259 regular-season games (237 starts) with the Stars, Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes and Wild. Selected by Minnesota in the seventh round (No. 206) of the 2004 NHL Draft, Khudobin is 14-10 with a 2.63 GAA, .919 save percentage and one shutout in 27 playoff games.
His best NHL season came in 2019-20, when he was 16-8-4 with a 2.22 GAA and a .930 save percentage in 30 games (26 starts) to help the Stars reach the Stanley Cup Final, when they lost to the best-of-7 series to the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. Khudobin is in the final season of a three-year, $10 million contract ($3.33 million average annual value) he signed with Dallas on Oct. 9, 2020.
The Blackhawks (21-35-5) are last in the Western Conference. They traded forward Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers in a three-team deal Tuesday; defenseman Jake McCabe and forward Sam Lafferty to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday; and defenseman Jack Johnson to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.
“You develop friendships with guys,” Chicago defenseman Seth Jones said. “‘Kaner’ being here for 15, 16 years and [he’s] done a lot of great things. And then ‘Domes’ came in and was a big part of our team, not only on the ice, but off the ice. Guys enjoyed being around him. So, you know, not just those two guys, but all the guys we’ve traded away. It’s emotional for everyone.”
Wells, selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round (No. 123) of the 2016 NHL Draft, is 9-6-1 with a 2.96 GAA and a .905 save percentage in 17 games this season for Rockford of the AHL. The 25-year-old has played one NHL game, making 12 saves on 13 shots for the Blackhawks in a 4-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 5 in relief of the injured Arvid Soderblom.
