Disappointment on the road for Checkers in Texas

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars won their second game in three against the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night. Goaltender Tyler Beskorowany kept a clean sheet while making 29 saves for the Stars. Yann Danis, of theOklahoma City Barons, has been the only other goalie to shut out Charlotte this season.

In what proved to be a very physical match up and a close game, Texas went ahead in the second period with two quick goals from Matt Fraser and Hubert Labrie. Fraser’s goal was his 11th of the season, a goal that came on a breakaway while Labric’s effort was a shot through traffic.

Again, as on previous occasions, the Checkers had problems on the power play going 0-5 for the evening. Of the last 34 power play opportunities the Checkers have converted three. Part of the Checkers problem was the fact that Beskorowany, a rookie, was in terrific form in the Texas goal, keeping Charlotte at bay even when they looked as if they were getting back into the game.

During the third period, when Charlotte was shorthanded, Colton Scevoiur got behind the Checker’s defense beating Mike Murphy in the Checkers goal, to make the score 3-0 for the Stars. Murphy, the AHL goaltender of the month for November, made 22 saves.

The aggressive tone of the game was evident throughout with 22 penalties. This is the second time this season that Charlotte has lost consecutive games in regulation.

Charlottes’ second trip on the road this week will see them in San Antonio on Sunday, December 11 when they face-off against the Rampage. They then return home for a four game stand.
