Di Salvo backstops RiverKings to third straight win

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Peter Di Salvo made 30 saves and Todd Hosmer tallied a pair of assists as the Mississippi RiverKings (26-14-7) won their third straight game, 2-1, over the Huntsville Havoc (22-22-4) on Tuesday night in Southaven.

After a scoreless first period, the RiverKings took a two-goal lead early in the second. Linden Bahm made a pass through the low slot to Cullen Bradshaw who backhanded a shot past Havoc netminder Kevin Genoe to put the RiverKings up 1-0 just 1:33 into the middle frame. With Kyle McNeil and Justin Tateson each serving two minutes for roughing, Todd Hosmer sets up Donald Olivieri who one-timed it past Genoe to put the RiverKings up 2-0 at 5:23 into the second.Mississippi Riverkings logo

The third period saw the Havoc outshoot the RiverKings 17-7 as they cut their deficit to one. Dave Williams capitalized on a rebound in front of Di Salvo as he wristed a shot over the RiverKings’ goaltender to come within one. With the Havoc net empty and the extra-attacker on, the Havoc collected opportunities, but Di Salvo and the RiverKings’ defense held on to take their third straight victory.

Peter Di Salvo (12-3-2) picked up the win after stopping 29 of 30 shots against. Kevin Genoe (15-16-3) stopped 29 of 31 shots in the loss.

The RiverKings scored once on six power play chances while Huntsville was held scoreless on their two opportunities with the man-advantage
