Saturday night, Solent Devils headed to the iconic Alexandra Palace to face the Haringey Huskies, as the Devils continue their push for the title.
As this fast paced game got underway, the Huskies came out as a team battling for a position higher than the seventh place they currently hold, chasing the Devils, pressuring Christian Cole in net, while thwarting the Devils attacks.
Haringey took a penalty early in the first period, captain Ben Osborne receiving two minutes for roughing.The Huskies held the defensive line, and Osborne returned to the ice with the score still level.
Barely two minutes later though, Ryan Payne received two minutes for interference.This time, the Devils really pushed the advantage, Alex Murray and Richard Facey providing the assists to Drew Campbell, as Campbell put the visitors in to the lead.
This score held until five minutes in to the second period, when Devils captain, Alex Cole and Alex Trendall helped Mitch Murray double the Devils lead.
Ten minutes later, Murray made it 3-0 to the Devils, Cole with another assist and Mark Pitts getting in on the points action with an assist.
The start of the third period, and both teams were still pushing, the Devils doing so with the confidence of being three goals in the lead.
A few minutes in to play, Pitts earned a second assist, Kieran Annis joining him with a point as they helped Alex Murray get a goal of his own.
A minute later, Evan Crockford picked up an unassisted goal too, bringing the score to 5-0.
With just under nine minutes to go in the game, Mitch Murray sat a two minute penalty, but Campbell pushed the puck through to Facey, who finished the job with a short handed goal.
Huskies picked up a consolation goal a few seconds later, Bryn Griffiths with the unassisted shot that beat the Devils netminder.
Another minute passed, and with the Devils big offensive unit on the ice, they wanted that last goal back.Facey and Campbell once more, put Murray through to beat David Wride for the seventh time of the evening.
Elsewhere in the league, Oxford City Stars beat the Lee Valley Lions 8-0, keeping them on the top of the table by just one point.
The Devils have a rare week off this weekend, then continue their four game away trip, with game three in Bracknell this Saturday, as the Hornets aim to close the gap, being only five points behind the Devils with three games in hand.Face off at the John Nike Leisure Complex, 6pm, Saturday 3rdMarch.
