Devils fall to Marlies, 2-1, in third OT Marlies advance to Round 2

TORONTO – After a battle that lasted 106 minutes and 43 seconds, the Albany Devils fell to the Toronto Marlies, 2-1, in the third overtime period Friday at Ricoh Coliseum. The loss not only ended the game but the series where the Marlies will advance to Round 2 of the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs. Mackenzie Blackwood made 58 saves on the night.

Travis Dermott got the Marlies on the board first at 8:05 of the first period. Kerby Rychel and Justin Holl earned the assists on the play.

Carter Camper netted the game-tying goal at 16:53 of the second period off a John Quenneville pass across the crease. The tally marked his second of the playoffs. Ben Sexton picked up the secondary assist.

After a scoreless third period and two overtime frames, Justin Holl netted the winner at 6:43 of the third overtime period. Frederik Gauthier and Brendan Leipsic were credited the assists.

Kasimir Kaskisuo made 30 saved on 31 shots in net for the Marlies.
