Devils break Coventry curse

It was the fourth weekend in a row that the Devils faced off against the Coventry Blaze.

But this was the first time in league action after 3 games in the Challenge Cup with the Blaze winning two of the three matches so far.

After a scoreless opening period, the Devils broke the deadlock when Stephen Dixon tipped in a shot from Sean McMonagle that beat Jamie Phillips at 29:06.

The Blaze tied the game up with a slick drop pass from behind the net by John Curran to Andrew Johnston who beat Ben Bowns to make it 1-1 at 33:31.

The Blaze had their chances in the final period, including a powerplay at 4824 when Masi Marjamaki was called for high-sticking but couldn’t get the go-ahead goal.

The Devils finally took back the lead at 53:51 when Sean Bentivoglio threw the puck into traffic in front of the net and somehow Matias Sointu tapped the puck through the legs of Phillips to make it 2-1.

The Devils held on in the final 6 minutes for the win on the back of a 33 save, man of the match performance by Ben Bowns.
