The Anaheim Ducks continued their strong defensive play Sunday night but once again lost the offense in a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
Riley Sheahan scored the game-winner at 16:16 of the third period.
“Just kind of a broken play,” Sheahan said. “We had a chance to get possession in the O-zone and [Larkin] made a good pass. I don’t think the goalie was really ready for it. It hit my stick and I was just trying to get it off as quick as possible and luckily it went in.”
Tomas Tatar also scored for the Wings.
“I think we’re a much better team,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “We’re much more cohesive and I think we play a better team game all around than we did in the first few weeks and I think we’re in a lot better shape.”
Petr Mrazek made 30 saves for the win.
“Twelve minutes (into the game), I didn’t have many chances,” Mrazek said. “There was one breakaway that missed the net, then just the Getzlaf shot from the blue line and it hit my blocker. That was my first save of the game. It’s always hard, but you have to battle and work harder.”
Corey Perry was the lone goal scorer for the Ducks.
“We played good, it was a great game both ways, I thought,” Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf said. “In a game like that, the mistake hurts.”
John Gibson had 22 saves in the loss.
