Detroit douse Flames in 8-2 decision

The Red Wings made quick work of the Calgary Flames in Detroit  on Wednesday night.

The Red Wings put up four goals in the first period to take a 4-1 lead and cruised to an 8-2 win.

Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou struck for two goals apiece in the win.

Jimmy Howard made 26 saves to pick up the win.

“We knew we needed more guys to start scoring, and that’s what happened tonight,” Howard said. “Tonight was great for this team.”

Dylan Larkinhad a goal and three points and Gustav Nyquist, Justin Abdelkader and Luke Glendening added markers for the Wings.

Micheal Ferland and Johnny Gaudreau were the goal scorers for Calgary.

Eddie Lack, got the start for the Flames but yielded five goals on just 15 shots; he was given the hook in the second period.

“I don’t know which of those he was supposed to get,” Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan said. “We need to learn what happens when you aren’t prepared to play. We weren’t ready and we got our butts kicked.”
