Deeside taking positive from mini-slump

Dragons boss Lol Paul believes his side’s mini-slump will help them overcome Laidler Conference strugglers Hull Jets on Saturday night.

The Chester Road men travel to Humberside on the back of a winning streak that has handed them the favourites tag for the league title.

But the memory of an early-season run of games, when Deeside lost to Nottingham and drew with Bradford, is still fresh in Paul’s mind.Deeside dragons logo

He said: “October was a blip for us and we scored twelve goals in our last game, so we definitely won’t be treating Hull like we did Bradford.

“We know we can’t go to away games, regardless of who we are playing, and automatically think we’ll win.

“I think the learning process of that defeat and draw has really helped us, in sharpening our mentality. We’re a lot stronger now.”

Deeside could, in fact, take top spot in the league over the coming weeks, if Nottingham lose their next few games.

Paul is, however, keeping his targets for the season a closely-guarded secret – but remains happy with his side’s progress.

He added: “We’re still on target for the year, as we’ve only lost one game all season, whereas the others have lost two or more.

“Beating Widnes twice was very important, as they’re just behind us, while Nottingham are just ahead.

“We play the Lions away in a few weeks, and that will be a big four-point game. We’re still very much on track.”
