Day three at the Deutschland-Cup

MUNICH, Germany – The last day of the Deutschland-Cup was just for the fans and the table.

After the second day, it was already assured that Slovakia would be the champion of this year’s Deutschland-Cup. This would be the third time since 1997 and 2006. The organizers were satisfied with this year’s crowd. For the three days there were 31,000 tickets sold, 11,000 for the last day.
The third day started with the game between Slovakia and Switzerland. Because of the results of the day prior the pressure was released from the game.

In the 12th minute, Inti Pestoni scored the first goal of this match, which helped the game to gain speed. The Swiss goal keeper Manzato had to leave the ice after a crash in the 15th minute, but Slovakia did not score in the first period.

Also, in the second period, no team was able to score but both teams played without sight. In the 43th minute, Marcel Hossa scored the equalizer and seven minutes later, Libor Hudacek potted the game winning goal for the tournament champions.
The last game of the Deutschland-Cup was played in front of 7,300 fans, it was the game with the most attendance in this 3 days. After a slow start for both teams, the Germans had the first chance when they were shorthanded, but Daniel Pietta failed to score.

But also the US team was unable to take advantage out of their power play chances and so the crowd was somewhat satisfied with the anticipated goalless draw for the first period.

But Michael Wolf denied their plans. He scored with a nice shot on the short side just a few seconds before the horn.

During the second period, neither team was able to score a goal.

While the laola-wave went around the stadium, the US team changed their goalkeeper and Chris Holt was between the posts. And Holt did a good job with his stick, when he passed the puck through the neutral zone to Ryan Lasch and he didn’t hesitate to shoot and knot the game 1-1.

But the Germans weren’t impressed, and just a few minutes later, Thomas Greilinger hit the crossbar. Better did it Philip Gogulla, when he scored the 2-1 in a powerplay situation in the 53th minute.

And Marcus Kink added the final score, when he netted an empty net goal half a minute before the end.
