Telford Tigers forward Dan Davies will put this season’s injury nightmare to the back of his mind, as he prepares for Saturday’s mouth-watering encounter with Manchester Phoenix.
The 26-year-old was a key part of last year’s EPL title-winning squad, but has spent much of this season in the Tigers treatment room, scoring just one goal in 25 appearances so far.
Davies bagged a point in his first game back – the 9-0 drubbing of Hull Pirates on February 6th – and will continue that comeback against Manchester, when over 1,000 fans are expected at Telford Ice Rink.
He said: “It feels great to be back playing. When you’re sat on the sidelines, you feel almost worthless, so to be out there helping the boys is fantastic for me.
“Hopefully, we can continue getting the wins and keep climbing up the table this weekend. The league is still technically a possibility for us, so we’ll be chipping away at every game, every night.
“The aim is, of course, to finish as high as possible in the league. This year, the top three teams get to choose who they face in the play-offs, so we want to be in that group.”
Davies, who is highly rated by head coach Tom Watkins, has been a virtual ever-present for the Shropshire outfit, since his move from Slough Jets in 2013.
He added: “It has been tough for me this season, as it’s the first time I’ve been injured in such a way and missed so many games. It was a tough experience, but I got through it.
“It’s different when you’re off the ice during the summer. During the season, you’re around the boys and watching them have fun on the ice. That makes it harder to watch.
“We’ve perhaps been a bit inconsistent this season, but on our day I still think we’re the best team in the league.”
