D’Aoust leads way as Icemen stay unbeaten

GREENVILLE, SC – After sweeping through its first four games at home, the Jacksonville Icemen took to the road on Sunday afternoon looking to remain unbeaten in 2018. They had little problem doing so as Alexis D’Aoust picked up his second straight three-point game in a 5-1 victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

The visiting Icemen dominated the first period, outshooting their hosts 19-8 and racing out to a 2-0 lead. The first goal came off the stick of Everett Clark, his third of the season, at 5:43 with the assists going to D’Aoust and Jack Glover. Just over two minutes later, Clark returned the favor by setting up D’Aoust for his first of the afternoon and fifth of the year at 7:46.

D’Aoust continued his torrid scoring in the second, grabbing his second of the day and sixth of the season at 2:44 on a power play. The helpers on the goal went to Wacey Rabbit and Trey Phillips. Four minutes and five seconds later, rookie defenseman Glover notched his first professional goal with Colton Veloso grabbing the lone assist on the play.

Jacksonville continued its onslaught in the final frame when Cam Maclise made it five unanswered scores for the Icemen. His first goal in a Jacksonville jersey was set up by Kris Newbury and Garret Cockerill.

Icemen rookie goalie Tanner Jaillet fought hard to pick up his first professional shutout but the Swamp Rabbits had other ideas. Michael Pelech and Trevor Owens combined to get the puck to Austen Brassard who beat Jaillet for his fourth of the season at 14:45 to complete the scoring.

With his three point game, D’Aoust extended his point streak to five games with three goals and three assists coming in the home-and-home set with Greenville. Rabbit also pushed his personal point streak to five games with his assist. Jaillet made 31 saves in running his record to 2-0.

The Icemen return to the ice on Friday when they host the Florida Everblades at the Veterans Memorial Arena.
