Danny Rose signs for The Tigers

Tom Watkins believes Danny Rose’s move to live in Telford full time will pay dividends for The Tigers next season.

The 20-year-old, who arrived in Shropshire three years ago, has agreed on a new contract with the EPL champions.

As part of the deal, he will move to Telford after previously travelling from Nottingham during his time with The Tigers.danny_rose

And Watkins expects that change in circumstances to make a big difference to the defenceman’s game.

He said: “Danny came here when he was just 17 and we were able to give him a great opportunity. He’s really committed to us and been an ever-present since then.

“The lad has got a lot of good experience and of course there are times when he needs to calm down. But he is still only 20 and playing alongside guys like Martin Ondrej and Jonathan Weaver will help him improve.

“Moving to Telford and being on the ice will be a massive step up for him, as he’s not had that before. But I think we will see massive improvements from him because of that.”

That focus on Rose’s game will include his offensive output, as Watkins looks to develop Telford’s attacking options.

“I like what Danny brings to the team and he’s got a tenacious character,” he said.

“His skating ability is very good, but there are always improvements we can make. I would love to see him in two three, or four years, having jumped on massively.

“I want him to start working on transitions, so he’s able to join in on rushes and create offence. It isn’t just about keeping the puck out of the net.”
