Dallas thrash Red Wings, 6-1 Dallas move back into tie atop Central

In Detroit, the Dallas Stars broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, added three more in the middle frame en route to a 6-1 win over the Red Wings on Monday night. Roope Hintz hit for a goal at 4:53 for a 1-0 lead n the opening stanza.

Esa Lindell doubled the advantage to 2-0 at 7:59.

Ty Dellandrea then scored at 12:10 for a 3-0 lead headed to the second period.

Jake Oettinger got the start for Dallas, and ice for two periods, yielding one goal and making 12 saves.

Scott Wedgewood worked the crease in the third period and made seven saves.

“We did what we needed to do tonight, now we have to do it again against St. Louis,” Stars coach Peter DeBoer said.

Dallas improved to 45-21-14 and moved back into a tie for the top spot in the Central Division with the Colorado Avalanche.

“We had them recording two scoring chances in the first period, and they scored three goals,” Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. “That’s not all on our goalies. We gave them chances you can’t give a team that’s primed for a playoff run, but it is hard to get any momentum like that.”

David Perron s was the lone striker for the Red Wings, his goal at 16:50 of the second period broke the shut out bid and made the score, 6-1.

Jason Robertson scored off the power play with 57 seconds gone in the middle frame for a 4-0 lead.

“I think, top to bottom, this is a game that everyone on our team would like back,” Red Wings forward Andrew Copp said. “We’ve been doing a better job lately of starting games well, but this wasn’t one of those nights.”

Joe Pavelski hit for a marker at 3:37 for a 5-0 lead.

For Pavelski, it was his 1,000tth career NHL point.

“You try to play it down when it is happening, because it takes you off a game a little, but when it went in, it was a good moment,” Pavelski said. “It meant something to see all my teammates coming off the bench. That’s one of the special things about this game.”

Jamie Benn scored at 14:19  of the second to balloon the lead to 6-0.

Ville Husso got the start for Detroit, and yielded three goals in the first period before getting the hook; he made two saves.

“This is part of the process,” Lalonde said. “He’s not sharp right now, and the last few games are going to crush his numbers. But we think he’s a potential No. 1 goalie for us, and we’ve seen flashes of that.”

Magnus Hellberg made 14 saves in a mop up role.
