Dallas take 3-2 win over Predators

In Dallas, Denis Gurianov, Joe Pavelski and Roope Hintz  each scored power play goals for the Stars in a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.

“It’s good to see when the puck is going in,” Pavelski said. “You’ve just got to stay with it. You can’t get too cute on it. When you get your lanes, you’ve got to attack. I think we’ve done a good job with that so far.”

The win gave the Stars a 2-0-0 record to get their season started after the COVID19 protocol shutdown.

“I just can’t give you an answer on that,” Dallas head coach Rick Bowness said. “It’s day to day. He’ll come in tomorrow and get treated, and we’ll see where it is. I know it sounds like we’re hiding something, but we’re not. It’s day to day. And hopefully he’ll be back on the ice Tuesday, but we won’t know until tomorrow.”

Gurianov put Dallas up 1-0 in the first period.

“I think the big thing in the first period, I thought they blocked shots,” Nashville coach John Hynes said. “We had opportunities and we didn’t hit the net. It was like we were trying to make the perfect shot to be able to go in. I didn’t think we generated enough on net when we had opportunities, and they did a good job of blocking shots.”

Filip Forsberg scored in the middle frame to stop the Dallas goal run at nine, starting with the first game of the set.

“I think what we’re doing so well is, yeah, we can move the puck, but we see we can attack in different ways, shooting from the point, having seam plays, coming down low, down-low plays,” Dallas’ John Klingberg said. “There’s a lot of different options there, and I feel like on the breakouts and entries, we’ve got a lot of options there too and a lot of speed. We feel good about it right now, and it’s going to have to keep being that way.”

Mikael Granlund scored midway through the third to get the Preds within 3-2, but were unable to find room on the ice after that marker.

Juuse Saros made  saves in the loss.

“Tonight, they came out harder, and it wasn’t our best 5-on-5,” Nashville’s Ryan Ellis said. “But we gave ourselves a chance to get back in the game and tie it up. Their goalie made some huge saves, and it wasn’t enough.”
