Dallas stump Kings, 5-2

In Dallas, the Stars scored three times off the power play on Tuesday night, in a 5-2 win over the visiting Los Angeles Kings.

Roope Hintz scored twice, including the first goal of the game off the power play.

Dallas was coming off a 6-3 loss to the New York Rangers over the weekend.

“It was an important response game for us,” Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. “This league’s all about your response. You’re not going to be good every night, and I loved our response. I thought we really played well.”

Scott Wedgewood made 30 saves in the win.

“We lost three out of four games, obviously something we don’t want to do,” Dallas’ Jamie Benn said. “It’s big coming back to answer, and [we] came up with a solid 60-minute effort. I think every guy in this room came to play tonight, and it’s why we got a good team win.”

Kevin Fiala and Arthur Kaliyev were the LA strikers.

Jason Robertson scored a power play goal for Dallas, the Stars were 3-for-4 on the power play.

“The start wasn’t what we wanted,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “If you don’t have your legs, you better have your brains, and we didn’t have either. That makes it a real tough night and that’s going to lead to penalties. The penalty kill did not get it done. We had it on our tape numerous times to clear and it didn’t come out. With that type of firepower and that type of power play, it’s going to end up in your net.”

Tyler Seguin scored for Dallas to give them a 3-1 lead in a four-goal second period.

“We know how good we can play and how good we can be as a team,” Kings forward Phillip Danault said. “We want to improve every game, and on a back to back, it’s a great opportunity to steal points. Obviously, a disappointing ending tonight.”

Hintz scored his second to make it 4-2.

Joe Pavelski scored the third power play goal with less than two minutes left on the game clock for the 5-2 final.

“We were working,” Dallas’ Miro Heiskanen said. “I think we have two really good units, and we need to be there, top-five [in the NHL] at least.”

Cal Petersen made 35 saves in the Kings loss.

“There’s no need for the frustration level to be high right now,” Los Angeles forward Anze Kopitar said. “We played a good game last night. We didn’t get it done tonight. There’s another game on Thursday [and] 2-1 on the trip would be a pretty good trip, so we’re going to rest tomorrow and get back at it on Thursday.”
