In Seattle, the visiting Dallas Stars took an early lead on the Kraken on Monday night and cruised to a 5-2 win.
The victory added two points to the Stars’ Central Division lead.
Including an overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks over the weekend, the Stars added four points.
“It was an important four points,” Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. “You look at the standings and we’re in a fight for first in the division, first in the conference. They’re in a battle for playoff positioning. They’ve been playing great all year, so this was a real test for us coming in here for two games and I thought our group really responded.”
Evgenii Dadonov and Jamie Benn scored in the first period to give Dallas a 2-0 advantage.
Jake Oettinger made 26 saves in the Dallas win.
The Stars improved to 37-17-13.
Yanni Gourde trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at the 15:00 mark for Seattle.
“Bottom line, we didn’t get job done. At the end of the day that’s what matters,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “There’s a couple there that we made mistakes on with where our positioning was, where our sticks are.
” … We’ve been a group that’s been able to turn the page and go back to the next job at hand. This group has to be able to do that again.”
The Kraken dropped to 37-23-7 on the fifth loss loss in six games.
“We had a couple of good shifts in there, guys were pushing,” Hakstol said. “In terms of the effort, the mentality on the bench was still good. We couldn’t push any momentum.”
in the middle frame, Joe Pavelski hit off the power play to give the Stars a 3-1 lead.
Seattle replied with a marker from Eeli Tolvanen to get that goal back and a 3-2 score.
Dallas responded quickly, just 14 seconds later on a goal from Wyatt Johnston
“It’s huge,” Johnston said. “Especially you’re on the road and just getting like three goals on the power play, it’s always, always a big help.”
Jason Robertson scored with 40 seconds of fresh ice used in the third period off the power play for the 5-2 final.
Martin Jones made 27 saves in the Seattle loss.
