Daavettila, Veideman paces Eagles in 3-1 win

BOISE, Idaho – Colorado used a goal and two assists from both Adrian Veideman and Trent Daavettila to pick up a 3-1 win over the Idaho Steelheads in Boise on Friday. Eric Levine stopped 28 shots in net to collect his fifth win of the season.

The Eagles jumped on top 1-0 just 6:23 into the opening period when Veideman launched a shot from the blueline, beating Stellheads goaltender Jack Campbell.

Colorado would find themselves on the powerplay just minutes later and they would capitalize, as defenseman Collin Bowman would take a cross-slot pass and fire a wrister past Campbell from the face-off circle to give Colorado a 2-0 advantage with only 8:23 gone in the first.

Idaho would finally get on the scoreboard 8:28 into the second period, as forward Carson McMillan would stuff home a rebound from the low-slot to trim the Eagles lead to 2-1 after forty minutes of action. It was the first goal allowed by Eagles goaltender Eric Levine in more than four periods of play, after posting a 26-save shutout at Rapid City last Sunday.

The Steelheads would enter the third period down 2-1 and would quickly put the Eagles back on their heels, outshooting Colorado 15-1. That lone shot, however, would find the back of the net as forward Trent Daavettila shot the puck into the empty net with 39 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Eagles the 3-1 win.

Levine was stellar in net, stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced and notching his fifth win in six starts with Colorado. Daavettila and Veideman each finished the night with a goal and two assists.

The same two teams will meet again on Saturday in Boise, with the opening face-off set for 7:10pm MST.
