Cyclones tripped up in Fort Wayne

Ft. Wayne, IN- The Cincinnati Cyclones (19-17-3-2) fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets, 4-1, on Friday night. Forward Jack Downing scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, who see their two-game winning streak snapped.

The Komets skated out to a 2-0 lead after the first on a pair of goals from former Cyclone forward Mike Embach. The first took a unlucky bounce off of a skate out front and into the net, while the second was a hard wrister from the high slot.

In the second period, Cyclones netminder Andy Iles was forced to make a number of big saves to keep the Cyclones’ deficit at two goals. Offensively, Cincinnati received a number of quality scoring chances as well, however just could not find the back of the net, and the Komets took their 2-0 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes of play.

Iles continued to shine in the third, however a power play goal from forward Joe Perry extended the Komets’ lead to 3-0, midway through the period.

Cincinnati continued to pressure Ft. Wayne offensively, and with less than two minutes left, defensemanBrett Wysopal sent a feed to Downing who blasted home a one-timer, pulling the Cyclones to within a pair, 3-1.

That was all the offense the Cyclones were able to muster, as an empty netter from Ft. Wayne forwardShawn Szydlowski with 12 seconds left sealed the 4-1 win for the Komets.

Despite the final score, Iles had another strong game in net for the Cyclones, stopping 25 of the 28 shots he faced. Wysopal extended his point streak to seven games with an assist. The Cyclones return home on Saturday night to take on the Quad City Mallards, on Pink in the Rink Night. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
