Cyclones score big win over Wheeling

WHEELING, WV – The Cincinnati Cyclones (37-27-3-0) collected a 5-3 game over the Wheeling Nailers on Tuesday night. The game was a make-up from the February 17 contest that was postponed due to flooding in the Wheeling area. Forward Daniel Muzito-Bagenda netted a pair of power play tallies, while forwards Shawn O’Donnell, Alex Kile, and Justin Vaive each netted lone goals for the Cyclones, who have won two in a row.

The Cyclones struck first 7:25 into the opening period when O’Donnell snapped a shot from the right circle up under the crossbar and in to put Cincinnati ahead 1-0. After the Nailers tied the game, 1-1 roughly five minutes later, on a goal from defenseman Dan Milan, Cincinnati regained the lead while on the power play when Muzito-Bagenda wristed a shot from the left circle and in to put the Cyclones back on top 2-1 after the first.

In the second, the Nailers power play came to life, receiving goals from forward Cam Brown and defenseman Kevin Spinozzi to give Wheeling a 3-2 lead, late in the frame.

Cincinnati wasted little time tying the game up, and just nine seconds after the goal from Spinozzi, Kile came racing down the left side following the ensuing face-off, and popped the puck in to pull the Cyclones back even at 3-3 through 40 minutes.

In the third, Cincinnati continued their power play prowess as Muzito-Bagenda rifled home his second man-advantage marker of the night from the left circle to put the Cyclones back in front, 4-3, 7:04 into the final frame. The Cyclones added the dagger with 6.4 seconds left when Vaive forced the puck out of the defensive zone and fired the puck into the open net from the red line to season Cincinnati’s 5-3 victory.

The Nailers outshot Cincinnati 36-28 on the evening, with goaltender Jason Kasdorf stopping 33 in the win. The Cyclones return home on Friday to take on the Ft. Wayne Komets. Puck drop is slated for 7:35 p.m. ET.
