Cyclones name new coach

CINCINNATI , Ohio – Cyclones team president Ray Harris introduced former Cyclone player Jarrod Skalde as the sixth Head Coach in franchise history. Skalde played professionally for seventeen seasons and is the only Cyclones player to have been promoted directly to the NHL.

Skalde has spent the previous two seasons as coach of the Bloomington Prairie Thunder of the IHL.

“We are extremely happy with the individual we have chosen,” Harris said. “Skalde has the values, integrity and passion for the game the organization sought in filling this important role.”

Skalde was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1989. He stated that he shares several coaching philosophies with recently promoted coach Chuck Weber. He said he will not come in and make unnecessary changes, but will continue the pursuit of success that the Cyclones have become known for.

Cyclones management searched for a candidate who had NHL experience as a player acknowledging that Skalde has played in 115 contests with eight squads. He served as a Captain or assistant during twelve of his pro seasons, which testifies to his leadership abilities.

The fans and followers of the Cyclones have come to expect excellence after two Kelly Cup Championships in the past three seasons. Skalde emphasized his pursuit for a solid work ethic that continues to allow the development of his players for success at the next level.

The Cyclones open the season in defense of their 2010 Kelly cup, with a new coach who learned under a number of legendary bench masters; such as Herb Brooks, Jack Adams and Ken Hitchcock.

“There are two reasons for taking this job,” Skalde said. “First there is a comfort level in knowing that I will be working with highly successful people, motivated people, extremely hardworking and the level of success the organization has had is a comfort. Another part, is the motivation to myself of coming in to coach this hockey team, due to the level of success and expectations.”
