Cyclones edge Nailers for first win of season

CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Cyclones (1-3-0-0) collected their first win of the season, defeating the Wheeling Nailers, 2-1, on Saturday night. Defenseman Craig Dalrymple and forward Dominic Zombo tallied the goals for the Cyclones, who wrap up a three-game homestand.

Cincinnati Cyclones logo 2015Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead with less than a minute to go in the first when a cross-ice pass from forward Kenny Ryan found Dalrymple in the right circle, and he snapped it into the net for his first professional goal.

The Cyclones too their 1-0 lead into the locker room, and in the second Wheeling turned up the offensive pressure, throwing 17 shots onto the net. Cyclones netminder Michael Houser was up to the task, making a number of high-reel saves in the frame to preserve Cincinnati’s 1-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Houser continued to dazzle in the third, however a goal from Wheeling forward Garrett Meurs early in the frame tied the game, 1-1.

Cincinnati continued to get some good scoring opportunities and fantastic play from Houser, and with less than four minutes remaining Ryan drove the net with a shot that was initially turned aside by Wheeling goaltender Doug Carr, but Zombo was following up the play and jammed home the rebound to give Cincinnati a 2-1 lead.

The Cyclones held on for a 2-1 win, and Houser completed a stellar night with 39 saves on 40 Wheeling shots. The Cyclones hit the road for a three-game series against the Manchester Monarchs beginning ion Friday. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00pm ET.
