Playing its third game over the last three days, the Iowa Wild failed to beat Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec (15-8-3), who made 23 saves for his eighth career shutout. After a scoreless first period, Kevin Fiala broke open the game with a wraparound goal that was reviewed before it was awarded the Admirals. Defenseman Trevor Murphy set up Fiala at 12:40 of the second period, as the Milwaukee forward swept in behind the Iowa net and slipped a wraparound off the left leg pad of goalie Leland Irving. Video review revealed Irving’s pad was behind the goal-line, allowing the puck to cross the line for Fiala’s ninth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Irving was pulled in the final two minutes in favor of an extra attacker. Milwaukee forward Max Reinhart fired the puck from the red line at 19:10, scoring an empty-net goal from Colton Sissons for the 2-0 final.
