PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The eight-game winning streak came to an end when the Syracuse Crunch were shutout by the Providence Bruins, 4-0, this afternoon at Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
The loss moves the Crunch to 29-14-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in the two-game season series with the Bruins.
Goaltender Connor Ingram stopped 26-of-30 in net for the Crunch, while Zane McIntyre earned the shutout with 27 saves. Syracuse was unable to convert on two power play opportunities, but went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Bruins opened scoring just 1:06 into the game when Cameron Hughes beat Ingram with a quick shot down low. Providence doubled their lead with 3:32 remaining in the first period. Karson Kuhlman faked a shot from the right circle, delayed and scored from the slot with the help of Connor Clifton and Jordan Szwarz.
Providence built a three-goal lead with a shorthanded goal in the final minute of the second period. Zach Senyshyn came in down the left wing on an odd-man rush before saucing the puck across the slot for Kuhlman to finish off with a quick redirection.
The Bruins went up, 4-0, at the 11:26 mark of the final frame. Gemel Smith centered the puck for Ryan Donato to rip home all alone in the left circle. Mark McNeill recorded the secondary helpe
