Crunch shutout Amerks, 4-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Louis Domingue had a 27-save performance as the Syracuse Crunch blanked the Rochester Americans, 4-0, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Mathieu Joseph and Mitchell Stephens both tallied a goal and two assists, while Adam Erne and Alex Volkov added a goal each. The win puts the Crunch on an eight-game winning streak and advances the team to 23-12-1-2 on the season. Syracuse also has a 3-1-1-0 lead in the 10-game season series against Rochester.

Domingue recorded his first shutout of the season and third of his career, while Linus Ullmark stopped 28-of-32 in net for the Amerks. Syracuse converted on 1-of-3 power play opportunities and went a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Crunch opened scoring with a power-play goal 7:20 into the game. Stephens won the faceoff in the left circle and sent the puck up to the top for Joseph to riffle home.

Syracuse added three more in the second period to build towards their 4-0 victory. Two minutes into the frame, Matthew Peca skated the puck into the zone down the left wing with Joseph and Adam Erne. He sent a centering feed to Joseph before the winger fed Erne in the bottom of the right circle for a one-timer.

At the 14:21 mark, Domingue poked the puck out to the top of the defensive zone for Stephens to pick up. He came in with Joseph and scored on a quick give-and-go play. Just 38 seconds later, Volkov scored from the right faceoff dot after a 2-on-1 rush with Carter Verhaeghe. Stephens earned the secondary helper.
