SYRACUSE, N.Y. –After going down one in the first period, the Syracuse Crunch potted three consecutive tallies to roll past the Springfield Falcons, 3-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Brian Hart and Tanner Richard both notched their first goals of the season, while Tye McGinn recorded the game-winner with his third goal in two games.
Crunch goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy picked up the win, turning aside 29 of 30 shots. Falcons netminder Niklas Treutle stopped 20 of 23. Syracuse was unable to convert on their one power-play opportunity, but shut down both Falcons man-advantages.
Tonight’s victory gives Syracuse a 1-0 lead in the four-game season series with Springfield and moves the team to 12-11-4-1 on the year. Springfield sits at 12-15-1-1.
Late in the first period, the Falcons scored for the first and last time. Jon DiSalvatore passed ahead to Ross Mauermann to start an odd-man rush. Mauermann drew the defenseman left before throwing a cross-crease feed for Eric Selleck to one-time from the bottom of the right circle.
The Crunch responded with three goals of their own beginning at the 14:05 mark of the middle frame. Anthony DeAngelo received the puck from Daniel Walcott and skated it in from the blue line. He shot a behind-the-back pass for Hart to bury his first of the season. Four minutes later, Syracuse took over the lead. McGinn carried the puck up the right wing side on a two-on-one play. He faked a pass and beat Treutle under the blocker. DeAngelo recorded his second assist on the go-ahead goal.
Richard built up a two-goal lead for the Crunch with his first of the season early in the third period. Adam Erne circled around the back of the cage and fired, but was stopped. Richard found the rebound and shoveled it into the back of the net at the four-minute mark.
The Crunch held onto their lead through the rest of game and topped the Falcons, 3-1, in their first meeting this season
