The Syracuse Crunch edged the Charlotte Checkers, 2-1, tonight at Bojangles’ Coliseum.
The win moves the Crunch to 41-17-4-2 on the season and 1-2-0-0 in the four-game season series against the Checkers.
Goaltender Eddie Pasquale earned his fifth consecutive win with 23 saves between the pipes for the Crunch. Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 18-of-20 in net for the Checkers. Syracuse went 0-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Crunch opened scoring halfway through the first period. Alex Volkov chased the puck into the right corner and chipped it out for Dennis Yan. He turned and sauced a feed for Cal Foote to one-time from the top of the circle.
After a scoreless second period, the Checkers knotted the score on the power play 4:11 into the final frame to eventually force overtime. Pasquale made a series of saves on Julien Gauthier and Tomas Jurco before Martin Necas put the puck in during a scramble in front of the net.
Syracuse earned the win 1:59 into the extra frame. Taylor Raddysh circled the puck around the back of the net through the left circle and across the slot before firing a shot from the right circle that was tipped down low by Barre-Boulet. Cameron Gaunce earned the secondary helper on the game-winner.
