Crunch drop 2-1 decision to IceCaps in overtime

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mike Halmo scored the Syracuse Crunch’s lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to the St. John’s IceCaps tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

The Crunch earned one point and move to 18-9-1-5 on the season. Syracuse is now 2-0-1-1 in the eight-game season series with St. John’s.

Crunch goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis turned aside 17-of-19 shots on goal. His counterpart, Yann Danis, earned the win with 32 saves for the IceCaps. Syracuse was able to convert on 1-of-4 power play opportunities, while killing both St. John’s man-advantages.

The IceCaps opened scoring with 1:27 to play in the first period. Julien Brouillette threw the puck into the slot where Anthony Camara backhanded it up and over the netminder.

Halmo evened the score late in the second period to eventually force overtime while on the power play. Cory Conacher ripped a slap shot from the right point for Halmo to tip in front of the cage. Joel Vermin earned a point on the equalizer.

Daniel Audette one-timed a feed from Stefan Matteau at the 1:24 mark of the overtime frame to take the victory. Julien Brouillette earned a secondary assist on the game-winner.
