Crunch defeat Devils, 4-2, to continue home points streak

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Crunch came back to tie the Albany Devils twice before taking the lead and an eventual 4-2 win tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

Tanner Richard, Adam Erne, Yanni Gourde and Erik Condra tallied goals for the team, while Jake Dotchin recorded his first three-point game of his career with three assists to help extend the Crunch’s home points streak to nine consecutive games. Adam Wilcox earned his 10th win of the season after turning aside 25-of-27 shots on goal. His counterpart, Ken Appleby, stopped 28-of-31 for the Devils. Syracuse converted on 1-of-4 power play opportunities and went a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Devils struck first to build a 1-0 lead 8:08 into the first period. Jan Mandat intercepted the puck on its way out of the zone and fed John Quenneville, who bested Wilcox with a one-timer from the slot.

With 5:43 remaining in the frame, Richard evened the score. Condra skated the puck around the right circle and passed back up top for Richard. The center charged in and fired from between the circles to knot the game, 1-1. Dotchin tallied the secondary assist.

Albany went back up on top for the second time when Blake Coleman lit the lamp with 8:56 remaining in the second period. Blake Pietila carried the puck into the zone and sent a centering pass for Coleman to net.

The Crunch climbed back for a second time and scored three unanswered goals to steal the win. The run started with a power-play goal with 14:18 left in the game. Matthew Peca threw a shot on net from the left circle that was tipped by Erne in the crease to level the contest, 2-2. Ben Thomas picked up the secondary helper.

Gourde gave the Crunch their first lead of the game with 5:34 left in regulation. Dotchin received a pass from Condra and fired from the point. His attempt was stopped, but Gourde picked up the rebound and scored on a wraparound.

Condra solidified the victory with an empty net marker with 1:18 remaining in the game. Gourde and Dotchin earned points for the assists.
