SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Crunch blanked the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-0, tonight at the Upstate Medical University Arena.
Goaltender Brandon Halverson stopped all 22 shots he faced. Dylan Duke and Max Groshev contributed the only two goals of the game, while Gabriel Szturc made it a multi-point performance with a pair of assists. The win advances the Crunch to 4-2-0-0 on the season.
Halverson earned his second shutout in three starts this season. Filip Larsson turned aside 17-of-18 in net for the Penguins. The Crunch power play was held scoreless on three opportunities with the penalty kill going a perfect 5-for-5.
The Crunch were first on the board halfway through the opening frame when they capitalized on a turnover. Duke got the puck in the left circle and cut towards the net where he beat Larsson five-hole.
Syracuse held Wilkes-Barre/Scranton off the board through the second and third period before Groshev added an empty-net goal in the final minute of play.
The Crunch travel to rematch the Penguins in the second half of the home-and-home series tomorrow night.
