Coyotes win fifth straight

In Glendale, you might say Brad Richardson had a good night.

On Wednesday, Richardson potted not three but four goals for the Arizona Coyotes in a 5-2 thumping of the visiting Vancouver Canucks.

“I think he took over the whole game, to be honest,” Coyotes forward Alex Galchenyuk said.

Darcy Kuemper got the win for Arizona – file

Darcy Kuemper made 37 saves for the win as the Coyotes have won five straight and are just a point back of the second wild card spot.

“We’ve been playing some really good hockey lately,” Vinnie Hinostroza said. “It’s the time of the year when every win is so important. We want to be there at the end, make the playoffs. Every game from now on, and the past couple of weeks, is a playoff game.”

Tanner Pearson and Antoine Roussel scored for Vancouver who dropped to 27-29-9.

“It’s disappointing. Very disappointing,” Roussel said. “We had some good stretches and had some bad flashes that cost us.”

Arizona improved to 31-28-5.

“Obviously, the goals are nice and I know I have goal-scoring in me, but our whole team revolves around defense,” Richardson said. “That’s how we’re going to have to win games, to try to get a playoff spot.”

Thatcher Demko made 19 saves in the loss.

“I thought we showed immaturity at times and in a game where you can’t do that,” said Canucks coach Travis Green, whose team was coming off a 3-2 shootout loss at Colorado on Wednesday. “We weren’t smart enough with our effort and gave them a couple of goals you can’t give up, especially when we’re a tired team coming in.”
